Keir Thomas is a Detroit-born artist whose work explores transformation, memory, and movement through experimental painting processes. Using frozen acrylic paint, poured pigments, drawing, and layered mark-making, Thomas allows natural forces such as gravity, melting, and evaporation to become active collaborators in the creation of each painting.
His work investigates the relationship between control and chance, often drawing inspiration from personal experience, Black cultural histories, landscape, and the ways memories leave traces over time. Through large-scale abstract compositions, Thomas creates spaces where material experimentation and storytelling intersect.
Thomas recently earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Michigan State University and will begin a fully funded Master of Fine Arts program in Painting at the University of South Florida in Fall 2026.
